But there are also some universal lessons to be drawn from the experience of living for eight decades. In this prologue, I want to share with you some advice that I wish I had received when I was young, and that I think can be useful for anyone who wants to make the most of their existence.

I do not pretend to have the absolute truth, nor to impose my vision on anyone. I just want to offer my humble perspective, based on my successes and my mistakes, my joys and my sadness, my dreams and my frustrations. I hope these words serve as inspiration, reflection or comfort. And above all, I hope they help you find your own happiness. Because in the end, that's what matters.

1.- Don't stop learning

The world is full of wonders and mysteries that you can discover and enjoy. Never lose curiosity and wonder for life.

See  Learn something new every day

Learning is a way to grow, improve and enrich your mind and spirit. Learning opens the doors to new opportunities, new knowledge and new experiences. Learning makes you freer, happier and wiser. Therefore, do not stop learning, because learning is living.

A historical example is the case of the illustrators of the 18th century. These thinkers set out to spread the lights of reason, science and progress among the society of their time, questioning the religious and political dogmatism that dominated the Old Regime. The enlightened defended education as a right and a duty of all human beings, and believed that knowledge was the key to improving people's living conditions, morality, and happiness.

Some of the most prominent representatives of the Enlightenment were Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Diderot, and Kant, among others. They contributed with their works to promote a critical spirit, public debate and social reform, laying the foundations of modernity and the revolutionary movements that transformed the world in the following centuries. For this reason, it can be affirmed that the illustrated ones were an example that learning is living.

2.- Do not settle for what you have

He always seeks to improve and grow as a person. Do not limit yourself by fear or comfort. Dare to dream and pursue your goals.

These are the keys to achieving success and happiness in life. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do. You are the owner of your destiny and the creator of your reality. Only you know what you want and what you need. Do not compare yourself with others, but with yourself.

Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, to overcome a challenge, to make a difference. Do not waste your time or your energy on things that do not bring you anything. Focus on what you are passionate about and what makes you happy. Don't settle for what you have, but for what you can have.

Mahatma Gandhi was a pacifist leader who fought for India's independence from British rule. He was not satisfied with the situation of oppression and discrimination suffered by his people, but he set out to change it with non-violent methods.

Gandhi drew inspiration from the teachings of different religions and philosophies, and practiced tolerance, truth, and civil resistance. Throughout his life, Gandhi faced many obstacles and challenges, but he never gave up on his ideals and his vision of a free and united India. Gandhi is an example of how social change can be achieved with determination, courage and love.

Ancient Greece was characterized by its openness to trade, culture, and politics with other regions of the Mediterranean. The Greeks established colonies, exchanged goods and knowledge, and engaged in alliances and wars with other peoples. This attitude allowed them to develop an advanced and diverse civilization, which influenced Western art, philosophy, science, and democracy.

On the contrary, isolation usually entails negative consequences, such as stagnation, ignorance or vulnerability to external threats. An example of the latter is the Chinese Empire, which suffered several invasions and looting by the Mongols and the Manchus, due in part to their lack of contact and information with other regions.

Simón Bolívar, the liberator of South America, was a political and military leader who fought against Spanish rule on the continent and founded several independent republics. Despite the difficulties and obstacles he faced, Bolívar never renounced his ideal of freedom and justice for the American peoples. Bolívar remained faithful to his principles and values, and did not allow himself to be corrupted by power or ambition. Bolívar is an example of how not forgetting oneself means defending one's own convictions and aspirations, and contributing to the common good of humanity.

6.- Do not compare yourself with others

Everyone has their own path and their own pace. Do not be influenced by appearances or other people's opinions. Be true to yourself and your values.

See  Dare to be yourself

These are some of the keys to living a full and happy life. Comparing yourself with others only generates frustration, envy and low self-esteem. Each person is unique and unrepeatable, and has their own strengths and weaknesses. There is no one better or worse than you, just different. Therefore, the important thing is to focus on your own personal and professional growth, and not on what others do or say.

Appearances are deceiving, and the opinions of others are not always objective or constructive. Don't let them affect you or condition you. You are the only one responsible for your life, and only you know what makes you happy and what you need. Be true to yourself and your values, and don't give up your dreams to please others. Only then can you be proud of yourself and your path.

Nelson Mandela was a political and social leader who fought against apartheid in South Africa and became his country's first black president. Mandela did not compare himself to anyone, but followed his own principles and values, even when he was imprisoned for 27 years for his activism. Mandela was inspired by other leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., but he did not imitate or envy them. On the contrary, he recognized them as allies in the common cause for justice and freedom. Mandela showed that it is not necessary to compare yourself with others to achieve great things, but rather to have a clear vision and a firm will to change the world.

Thomas Alva Edison was the American scientist who designed the electric light bulb and one of the clearest examples of an entrepreneur who learned from failure. Edison did not give up in the face of difficulties and rejections, but kept experimenting until he found the right solution. He himself said: “I have not failed; I know many ways not to make a light bulb.” Edison taught us that failure is an opportunity to improve and to discover new possibilities. His perseverance and his creativity enabled him to change the world with his inventions.
