The three pieces of advice
A poor man leaves home to work and save money for his wife. After 20 years, he returns with three pieces of advice.
A newlywed couple were very poor and lived off
the favors of the people of a small town. One day the husband made the
following proposal to his wife:
"Dear, I am going to leave our house for a while, I will look for a job and I will work until I have earned enough money to return and be able to give you a more comfortable and dignified life. I don't know how long I will be away from you, I only ask one thing, that you wait for me and be faithful to me. On my part, I promise to be faithful to you."
So, the young man walked for several days,
until he finally found a landowner who was needing an assistant for his estate.
The young man offered to work and was accepted.
But he decided to make a pact with his boss:
"Let me work for a while and when you
think it's time for me to leave, you will release me from my obligations. I
don't want to receive my salary, I want you to deposit it in a savings account
until the day I leave. Then at that moment you will give me the money that I
have earned."
They agreed and that young man worked for
twenty years, without vacations or rest.
After that time, he approached his boss and
said to him:
Boss, it's time to go back home, I want you to
give me my savings, I'll leave very early tomorrow.
The boss agreed, but before fulfilling his part
of the pact, he made him an offer:
I can give you your money and you leave, or I
can give you three pieces of advice and I don't give you the money and you
leave.
If I give you the money, I don't give you the
advice and vice versa. Go to your room, think about it and then give me the
answer.
He thought for two days, with many doubts
because it was a lot of money, but as he respected his boss and considered him
a great sage and knew that he loved him like his own son, finally he did not hesitate
and said: "I want the three pieces of advice"
The boss reminded him: "If I give you the
advice, I don't give you the money." Yes, yes, I know, but I want the
advice.
The boss then advised him:
1. “Never take shortcuts in your life”. The
shortest and unknown paths can cost you your life.
2. “Never be curious about that which
represents evil”. Curiosity about evil can be fatal.
3. “Never make decisions in moments of hatred
and pain”. You may regret it for the rest of your life.
After giving him the advice, the boss told the
young man:
"Here are three loaves of bread”, two to
eat during the trip and the third one is to eat it with your wife when you
arrive at your house.
After twenty years away from his home, the man
began the long journey to return to his family.
When he had completed the first day of the
journey, he found a person and after greeting him he asked him where he was
going. He replied: I am going to a very distant little town that is more than
twenty days' walk along this road.
The man told him: This road is very long, I
know a shortcut with which you will arrive in a few days. He became happy and
began to walk along the shortcut, but suddenly he remembered the first piece of
advice.
“Never take shortcuts in your life”. Shorter
and unknown paths can cost you your life.
Then he left that shortcut and went back to
following his path.
Two days later he found out that other
travelers who had taken the shortcut had been assaulted, beaten and robbed of
everything they had. That shortcut led to an ambush.
After several days of travel, already very
tired, he found a small hotel and thought of spending the night there. It was
already very late and when he called, a woman opened the door and attended him.
After taking a bath, he went to bed. But early
in the morning, he woke up frightened by hearing a terrifying scream.
He went to the door to go to the place where
the scream was coming from, but when he was opening the door, he remembered the
second piece of advice.
“Never be curious about that which represents
evil”. Curiosity about evil can be fatal.
So, he returned and went back to bed. At dawn,
after breakfast, the owner of the inn asked him if he had not heard a scream
and he answered that he had heard it. The owner asked him if he had not felt
curious and he answered that he had not. To which the owner replied: You have
been lucky to get out of here alive, for at night we are haunted by a woman
with madness crises, who screams horribly and when the guest goes out to find
out what is happening, she kills him and then disappears.
The young man continued his long journey,
anxious to reach his home.
After many days and nights of walking, when it
was already dusk, he saw among the trees the smoke that came out of the chimney
of his small house. He approached and saw among the bushes the silhouette of his
wife.
Although it was getting dark, he realized that
she was not alone. He approached a little more and saw that she had on her lap
the head of a man whom she was caressing his hair.
When he saw that scene, his heart filled with
hatred and bitterness and he decided to run to meet the two and kill them
mercilessly. He breathed deeply, hurried his steps, when suddenly he remembered
the third piece of advice.
“Never make decisions in moments of hatred and
pain”. You may regret it for the rest of your life.
Then he stopped and reflected, he decided to
sleep there that night and the next day to make a decision. After having
rested, he decided to return to his boss, but first he wanted to tell his wife
that he had always been faithful to her.
He went to the house. When his wife opened the
door and recognized him, she hugged him tightly, but he with tears in his eyes,
reproached her for not having been faithful and for having betrayed him with
another man.
She surprised, replied: I never betrayed you, I
was faithful to you during all these twenty years.
And then, she asked him: Who is that man that
you were caressing yesterday afternoon?
And she answered him: That man is our son. When
you left, I discovered that I was pregnant.
Then the husband entered, hugged his son and
told them his whole story, while the wife prepared dinner.
Finally, they sat down to eat the last loaf of
bread, just as the boss had ordered. After giving thanks for the food, he broke
the bread and when he opened it, he found all the money that he had earned
during the twenty years that he worked for his boss.
MANY TIMES WE BELIEVE THAT
"SHORTCUTS" HELP US TO ARRIVE FASTER, WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE...
MANY TIMES WE ARE CURIOUS, WE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THINGS THAT DO NOT EVEN
RESPECT US AND DO NOT BRING US ANYTHING GOOD... OTHER TIMES WE REACT MOVED BY
IMPULSE, IN MOMENTS OF ANGER, AND THEN WE REGRET IT.....
LET'S REMEMBER THAT EVERYTHING IS GOOD IN LIFE, YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.
