The Republican Party in the United States is going through a deep internal crisis that threatens to paralyze the functioning of Congress and cause the shutdown of the federal government.

The cause of this situation is the division between the most moderate and pragmatic wing of the party, led by the president of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, and the most radical and Trumpist sector, led by Florida representative Matt Gaetz.

1. The rebellion of the Trumpists

The Republicans most loyal to former President Donald Trump have launched an offensive to unseat McCarthy from the position of speaker of the House, whom they accuse of being too soft on Democrats and not defending the interests of the party. To this end, they have blocked the approval of the budget laws for the fiscal year that begins on October 1, which could leave the public administration without funds and force the suspension of the salaries of hundreds of thousands of officials.
